Labor Day Weekend

So I’m just now getting around to posting about Labor Day weekend, I’ve been busy :). We had such a great weekend, we went “home” to Ty’s family’s farm. We hadn’t been there in a while so we decided to stay the whole 3 days. On Friday, we went over to Ty’s aunt and uncle’s house and had a cookout. They also have a pool so we took advantage of that and Ty and Riley (I forgot my suit…bummer) went swimming with Ty’s cousins, Hayley and Troy, and his sister, LaCross. Sherry made a great meal and Dave cooks a mean steak (MY FAVORITE!!). So we hung out there most of the evening and went to Ty’s Grandma’s house “over the hill” to put the kids to bed. (I say over the hill because his whole family lives on a HUGE farm. His mom lives “up the hill”, his Grandpa lives “down the hill”, Grandma lives “over the hill” and his aunt and uncle live right there too (but we don’t have a name for it :)).

Swimming!!

Saturday morning Ty needed to get his motorcycle to the shop because he was getting a part fixed so we took that in and spent a little while in Benton Harbor walking around. Then the rest of the day was spent “down the hill” chatting and eating Pizza Hut pizza (a routine on weekend evenings at their household!).

The HUGE farm house!!

Not a very relevant picture, it was taken at Burger King in the play area (another first for Ri), I just thought it was the cutest picture of Ty and Riley. It also shows how much they look alike!!

Sunday we were going to leave earlier in the afternoon so we packed up the Explorer and hung outside all afternoon. Riley had SO MUCH FUN running around without a care in the world. There was so much space and grass and she didn’t have to hold our hands. It was so cute to see her running around without shoes, chase the ducks, and running from the cats. She used to cry every time she even saw an animal on the farm, but she’s gotten so much better. She’ll even pet the dogs now. That’s a huge step for her. We said our goodbyes and took off towards home. I love going to see Ty’s family, it’s a nice getaway, and we don’t get to see them that often so it makes it special when we do. The only thing I don’t love is that I am so allergic to everything on a farm that my allergies act up SO BAD and I’m usually sneezing and coughing the whole time. Oh well, it’s worth it to see the fam.

I have proof…she actually touched the dog!! WHOOHOOO!

Family picture (with a lot of people missing!): LaCross, Grandma, Lincoln (on Gma’s lap) Riley, Ty and I.

Monday we spend the day on Gull Lake with my mom’s side of the family. We went tubing and then had a great meal (as usual). Riley loves going on the boat and Ty and I had fun tubing, although we were both really sore the next day. He was the only one who didn’t get thrown off and I think I was thrown off the most out of everyone. All and all we had a great extended weekend and we both decided that it just goes way too quickly!!

  1. what a blast!!! i think that is the one thing i will miss (being out here in oklahoma) is being close to family. you\’re right, that picture of ty and riley is too cute!!! 🙂 Random question, do you know how his sister got such a unique name? Named after anyone?
