What we’ve been up to

I feel like I haven’t really updated about what’s going on in our life for a while, so this post is dedicated to just that. As most of you know we transitioned Riley into a big-girl bed a couple of weeks ago and it’s going HORRIBLY! Oh it’s so frustrating. To be honest I think it’s 20 times more difficult than potty training was! We’ve pushed back her bedtime from 7 until 8 hoping that she’d be more tired and therefore give us less hassle at night, well nope it hasn’t stopped her. Also she’s now rarely taking a nap because she keeps getting out of bed and plays. She doesn’t come out of her room, she just jumps out of her bed, grabs a toy and jumps back in bed. It’s difficult because if we lived in a house I’d empty her room–she’d have a bed and a dresser, but as of right now we don’t have anywhere else for her toys. I really miss the days of having her in her crib and just pray it gets easier. Her new favorite thing now though is playing “tea party”. We have tea parties ALL day long. She can also now count to 25 and can recognize almost all of the letters of the alphabet and can recognize many of her colors. She’s a smart little thing (too smart, sometimes!!).

“Wrestling” is their new favorite thing to do. Riley is actually very gentle with Lincoln, she’s usually the one who gets hurt (if either of them do). But they have so much fun together!

Matching jammies

Riley and Lincoln were playing in her room while I made dinner. They were both dressed when I left them, someone undressed them both. I wonder who that could have been??? Maybe the child of mine who doesn’t like to wear clothes :)!!

Lincoln had a doctors appointment yesterday to recheck his ears. The doc. said his ears look great which I’m so thankful for!! He weighs 17 lbs. 12 oz. and is 28.5 inches long. I’m glad his ears are better, but I wish I had an explanation why he’s not sleeping well. I honestly think he’s just in the habit of waking up because he was sick for so long that he’s just gotten used to it. I can’t let him cry at night either because he’ll wake up the neighbors and I feel bad waking them up at 2 am. So, I’ve been so exhausted to say the least. Lincoln is also pulling himself up to standing now. I really didn’t think he’d do it for a while now, but last night he really wanted to touch the tv so he did it. He sure is getting big and I can’t believe he’s going to turn 1 in 2 months!!

My big boy standing!

I’ve still been going to MOPS which I absolutely love. My group is great and the break is very much needed. I’m also going shopping this weekend all by myself (I think Ty knows I desperately need a break) which I’m looking forward to. Ty has been working a lot lately which we’re so thankful for. He’s been working 10-12 hour days most days, so he’s been really busy and looks forward to the weekends where he can spend more time with the kids. He’s really considering taking a career path towards working at the YMCA. He worked there for years and loved it, so he’s looking for something higher up to start climbing the ladder. We’re praying that he finds something that is suited just for him soon. His job right now is good, but last summer was rough so we hope that either this summer isn’t as slow or he finds something else. But he does really like the people he works with now!

That’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to. We’re all looking forward to the warmth again. I’m totally getting cabin fever and I know it will help when we can get outside!

  1. Those are great pictures. Love them. They show so much personality. I hope things get better with putting Riley to bed. Where\’s Lincoln sleeping? In the crib yet?

  2. Love the new pictures!!!! Riley is hilarious. Naked baby and all. 🙂 McKenzie does not know how to recognize letters. How did you teach Ri? As far as keeping her in her bed….hmmm….I never had that problem (thankfully), so I don\’t really have any tricks. At least she\’s not leaving the room, I guess 🙂 It will be better. I\’m sure you\’re tired. Kylie is STILL getting up every night around 2AM as well. I made the mistake of feeding her and now she is programmed. McKenzie still does sometimes too, so I\’m definitely not the model for that. 😦 Sorry I\’m not much help! 🙂 I can\’t STAND to hear them cry it out, so I am not that good in that department 🙂 Sooo glad to hear Ty is working so much ~ quite a change from before…probably takes some getting used to 🙂
