Welcome to the Jungle (the decor)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINCOLN!

Lincoln’s first birthday cake. It was the first cake I’ve ever decorated and I was nervous about how it would turn out, but I was overall really happy with it.

The cupcakes–giraffes and zebras! I made the giraffes and zebras out of fondant frosting. I had actually never used fondant before either…I was feeling brave.

MORE cupcakes. I mad these elephant and lion cupcakes as well. I baked cupcakes in the silicone “cupcake holders”. Then I dyed fondant icing and shaped the bodies and head of the animals. It’s all completely edible. Honestly, they were really fun to make, but took WAY too long. I’m not sure I’ll be making them again anytime soon!

We bought 4 of these huge Mylar balloons, one was a lion, one was a zebra and the others were an elephant and a monkey! We stuck to the jungle theme throughout, even Riley and Lincoln’s outfits were part of the theme :)! I just love coming up with ideas for the kids’ birthdays and thank goodness for Ty taking both kids the day before because I was able to get everything done that I wouldn’t have been able to if I had to watch them.

  1. the cake and cupcakes are VERY impressive!!! did you take a class on cake decorating? I have wanted to, but usually i just play around and try to teach myself. lol

  2. I love the birthday cake for Lincoln. Shelby you are so talented. I swear you could offer to make cakes and other stuff for peoples parties and they would pay you. I was just too busy this year to make Jonathan\’s birthday cake. Maybe for Joey\’s in September. My legs still aren\’t right either, so every other week or so we\’re at another doctor trying to figure out what to do. I can\’t bend down on my knees anymore, so I can\’t give the kids a bath and its hard to get on the floor to play with them. Oh well, I hope I get better soon.
