Last week my Grandma passed away. It was a difficult time for my family and my Grandma fought hard for so long. She had developed diabetes about 5 years ago and her health seemed to deteriorate slowly after her diagnosis. After another hospital stay just before she passed away she decided to stop fighting and came home on hospice. She lived only a few hours after coming home…but she was surrounded by all her family and in her own home. She and my Grandpa had been married 61 years and she lived a long, full life! I was so sad to not have been able to go home and see her before she died, but I am so thankful she is no longer in pain and I take comfort knowing that she is in heaven and I will see her again some day!!
Upon finding out she had died I made plans right away to go home. I knew I wanted to be there for her funeral, but wasn’t sure I wanted to drag the kids and Ty along with me. It would be a lot of work for the 4 (and a half) of us to fly home for essentially a day and a half. So Ty and I decided that I’d just go and he’d stay home with the kids all weekend. I hopped on my plane, after getting a clearance and note from my doctor that it was okay to fly, and was in MI in no time.
It was so nice to be “home” again and my sister, Corey and nephew, Micah, (who I hadn’t met yet) came home from AZ as well. I was so glad to get my hands on that little peanut! It was a short stay, but I’m glad I was able to see my family and say goodbye to my Grandma!
I was talking to Ty on my drive home from the airport once I got back to WV and as much as I loved being back in MI, WV feels like home now because that’s where my husband and kids are. I suppose I’ll be content wherever we are as long as I’m with them! It is good to be home…
Mom with the original 5!
Just missing Ty and the kids :(!
After the funeral we went to my Aunt Janet’s “barn” and had a nice lunch with a lot of family and friends.
It was so good to see my sister!

I would have held him the whole weekend if I didn’t have to share him with everyone else!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma Shelby! I'm sure it was great to see family, but bittersweet. We're praying for you guys!
