6 moves in 6.5 years

In case life hasn’t been hectic enough, we also added another move to our agenda. Let me start from the beginning:

After about a year of living in Champaign, IL it became apparent to Ty that we probably wouldn’t settle down and buy a house there. He loved his job, but there was no opportunity for career growth which he desired. So, he decided to start applying for new jobs when he saw a god opportunity. He had some interviews, but nothing was exactly what he wanted. Then one week he got a phone call from a company in Indianapolis, IN who wanted an interview. A couple days later he also got a phone call from Priority Health in Grand Rapids, MI for an interview. To make a LONG story short, Ty ended up getting a job offer from the Indy company and as much as he wanted it he REALLY wanted the Grand Rapids job more.

The company in Indy, we thought, was moving a little faster than the GR job. He had gotten the job offer from Indy the day after the GR interview. Ty had to let Indy know on Friday by 2 pm whether he wanted to take the offer or not. Anyways, he ended up taking the Indy job that Friday because the offer was too good to turn down especially because he knew the GR job wasn’t a done deal. So, for about 2 days I thought we were moving to Indy (they wanted him to start 2 weeks later). However, 6 MINUTES after he got off the phone with the company in Indy, he got a phone call from GR giving him an offer for that job as well. It was CRAZY and exciting and nerve-wracking. So, Monday morning he had to call Indy up and tell him that he had another opportunity and was taking that instead. What a whirlwind. We knew we would be moving in 1.5 weeks but didn’t know where to! We would have loved Indy, but are so glad to be closer to friends and family back in Michigan. Ty was really humbled and thankful to get two job offers within 2 days, especially with the way the economy still is. I, however, am not surprised because he is good at what he does and I think people realize they’d be lucky to work with him!

So, here we are, our first week in Grand Rapids. It’s still crazy to me that just 2 weeks ago we were living our lives in Champaign. I so miss my friends and neighbors back there, especially when I take the kids out by myself. It’s always so much more fun to have a friend and their kids tag along!! More to come on our transition…

  1. Congratulations on the baby girl and new job/move! We had a very similar situation here a few weeks ago, trying to decide on a job in Chicago or a new job here (we are staying). It sounds like you made the best choice–good luck with your transition and the rest of your pregnancy!

  2. Shelby, Ty is so good at getting jobs, can you pray for me to get a job too? I lost my job and I'm the only one working as my husband in getting his M.Div. Also does this mean Hailey gets her best friend back?? Have you seen them since you got back!?
