One things the past year or so I’ve really tried to do is cut out processed foods and eat only whole grains. However, I find that I literally LIVE in the kitchen. Thankfully, the kids love helping (even if it takes me 10x longer to make something) but I need to find a balance between eating healthy and making most everything from scratch and having play time with the kids and time for myself! I have gone from buying yogurt, granola bars, pop tarts, breads, bagels, tortilla shells, sandwhich bread, popsicles, granola, brownie mix, cake mixes, and so much more at the store to making it ALL from scratch. I know it’s my responsibility to teach my kids healthy eating habits and what they are offered is what they eat, so how can I NOT be conscious of what’s in the food they eat? Any suggestions on how to find that balance? Have any great recipes that you use at home that are easy and not too time consuming? At times I feel like I need to take a break, but making our own food is SO much healthier and so much cheaper!

My dream of making this all easier is a deep freezer. 🙂 We're waiting to sell our house until we get one, and I could make so much more ahead of time if I had one. I think as long as you are not obsessing over things, you find balance. Like if you have a crazy week and you have to buy tortillas instead of making them, or you order fast food one day instead of eating healthy – everything in moderation and anything to keep you sane. If you find yourself feeling guilty about something, you've probably stepped over that balance line. I've found it helps to have a day of the week or month where I just cook like crazy since my boys don't really give me a break during the day. 🙂 Lane helps, but Corbin is all over the place!

the balance is allow yourself to slip up a few times. There is nothing wrong with \”processed food,\” every food goes through a process (some more than others). There are some foods that just taste better when they are made from scratch, or not bought in a can. You're a good mom, and I know they are learning healthy eating habits from you. Everything in moderation. 🙂
