Homeschooling

I’ve officially lost my mind because we’ve made the decision that I will be homeschooling the kids this year. I say this year, because that’s all I’m commiting to right now. We will see how it goes and take it one year at a time. I LOVE the idea of homeschooling, love it! I love the flexibility of it, I love watching my kids learn and discover new things, I love being able to decide what they learn and what they don’t. I love that they can choose what to study. I love being able to go on field trips any time we want to. I love that I can implement the Bible into their “school day”. Seriously, the list goes on…

I suppose the only thing I’m a little worried about is having a new baby and all that can entail as far as getting into a routine. Although, I’m probably more worried about keeping Emmersyn busy while we are diong school, at this point. I have bought all of our curriculum and prepared as much as I think I can, so wish me luck :). I have been working on reading with Riley much of the summer because she’s so interested. Lincoln REALLY wants to read as well, but it’s taking him much longer to grasp so for now he’ll sit in (if he wants to) on our reading sessions and I’ll try to teach him again in a couple of months. I don’t necessarily want, at this age, to have a hardcore schedule, but I hope to instill the love for learning in them.

I also look forward to being involved in other activities and am thankful I don’t have to give them up yet. We will still be doing BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), MOPS, and R and L will be doing AWANA and Gymnastics. SO, I’m not worried about the social aspect of homeschooling :).

We will be doing most of our school while Emmersyn naps during the afternoon, so I will have to find a way to get all my other stuff done that I would normally do during their “quiet time”. I’m a little nervous about how it will all go, but I’m more excited than anything!

  1. You can do it! I'm excited to hear how it goes. After a little while you'll be into the routine of it and it will become the new normal. Until the baby comes, right?:)I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. I'm sure your dad is so thankful you guys are close during this time. Praying for your family!

  2. I think it's fabulous that you're homeschooling, Shelby. Josiah is only 2 1/2, but I'm already considering it, too. I'd love to hear how it's going as you balance school, life, and babies! 🙂
